Composing emails can be tricky from time to time, especially when you're emailing about something important. Little did you know, writing emails can be a lot easier with the proper set-up. In an email, you should include an introductory note, a date, the body text, and a closing note. It should look a bit like this:
Dear Mimi, 3/21/23
Hello! I was hoping to reach out to you in regards to the cookies you baked for me yesterday. Do you know if they have gluten in them? Mom would like to know. Thank you!
-Sarah
That was just an example. Now, let's break it down. In the top left corner, you should write "Dear" then the person's name who you're writing to. In this case, it was Sarah's grandmother. In then top right corner you should write the date. Moving on to the body text, you'll want to make it a couple lines down from the introductory text. Start the first sentence with a greeting. Sarah used "hello". The next part of the body text should be the main idea of the email. Ask yourself, why am I writing this email? End the body text with "thank you" or a goodbye note. Go down a couple more lines and write the end note. Make sure you let the person know who's sending the email, by saying things like "Sincerely, Noah" or "From Ruth".
If you are writing a business email, it'll be a little different and a little more mature. Just to give an idea of how that would look, here's an example. (You set it up the same way, but the body is different).
Dear Mr. Gregory, 3/21/23
Good morning! I know you must be busy but I wanted to inform you that my mom won't be able to make it to parent/teacher conferences today. Please email me back to reschedule. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience!
Sincerely, Christopher
In business emails, make sure in the body text you thank whoever you're emailing and have a friendly greeting like "Good morning" or "Good afternoon". Hopefully this helped you!
